Gear Maintenance Seminar

Lufkin's gear seminars are held three times a year. The schedule for 2008 is April 8th & 9th, July 8th & 9th, and October 7th & 8th. Please limit your participants to three or less per seminar. The class will be limited to the first 40 applicants. If we are over our limit when your registration arrives, we will schedule you for the next class. You will receive confirmation from my office within two weeks after we receive your registration form. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call (936)637-5708.

  • There is no charge for this seminar.
  • We recommend that you arrive the evening before the seminar begins.
  • Please make hotel reservations with the Comfort Suites (936) 632-4949. Mention that you are attending the LUFKIN GEAR SEMINAR to obtain Lufkin’s corporate rate of $89.36
  • LUFKIN will provide transportation from the motel. Please meet our van at the lobby entrance at 7:30 AM both mornings for transportation to the factory.
  • LUFKIN will provide coffee, juice and doughnuts both mornings, as well as both noon meals and dinner the first evening.
  • Hard sole shoes and long pants must be worn in order to participate in the shop tour.

LUFKIN Gear Repair offers 1-1/2 day seminar designed with the maintenance professional in mind. This hands-on seminar is for those involved in the upkeep of gearing. The sessions will include:

  • General discussion of gearing-defining terminology.
  • General discussion of installation - shimming, alignment, tooth contact.
  • Diagnosis of gear problems - causes of failure, emergency and long-term repairs.
  • Analysis of operating characteristics - noise, heat, vibration.

A special feature of our seminar will be the hands-on demonstration of tooth contact and bearing adjustment. You will be given the opportunity to participate in the assembly of any actual new unit or repair unit in process.

Seminar Leader - Kenneth O. (Ken) Beckman

Ken is Chief Engineer of LUFKIN’s Industrial & Marine Gear Product Design group. He joined LUFKIN in 1972, following graduation from Montana State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is active in the day-to-day design and application of gearing and has been a frequent lecturer at technical conferences and seminars.
